The effect of road geometry on the deterioration of asphalt pavements Abstract:
Whenever a research has been done about the reasons for the failure of asphalt pavements. The effect of the geometric design of the road is not taken into account.
So far, researchers have only investigated the effects of traffic loads, thermal stresses, asphalt concrete design, and the quality and properties of materials. In this article, many observations and measurements have been made in regions that are different in terms of geography and climate .The purpose of these observations is to investigate the relationship between the geometric design of the roads and the cracks formed in the asphalt.

The results obtained from the observations show that the amount of pavement cracks in the places of horizontal and vertical arches , slopes and bridges is more than that of straight paths .Therefore , it can be said that the geometric design of the road has a great impact on the damage rate of asphalt pavements , and it is necessary to consider this in the design and execution stages of the pavement .
Knowing more and clarifying the relationship between road specifications , road design and construction , and pavement failures will lead to a better understanding of the real causes of pavement failures , and as a result , we will be able to reduce the cost of maintenance and repairs and increase the life of the pavement .
